what I spent this month {february budget}

Hey friends, it’s that time again. Time to figure out where I spent my clothes budget. And zip! Another month GONE! I can’t believe how quickly time flies when you’re having fun when you’re super busy. As I said in a previous wishlist post, I really needed some blouses for work. I decided to forego the usual thrifting and actually get what I really need, plus a few extra things that I couldn’t resist.

I really love everything I bought this month and feel like even though I spent a good amount, I got a lot of really great basics that I’ll be getting a lot of wear out of, especially for work.

What I bought in February: LOFT dotty blouse, NYDJ lipstick blouse, NYDJ hearts blouse, LOFT skinny pants, Beija Flor Nicole Jeans, Vintage Coach bag

Here’s what I bought this month:

  1. LOFT Dotted Plaid Utility Blouse, $46 {find it here}
  2. NYDJ Lipstick Love Print 3/4 Sleeve Blouse, on sale at Amazon for $45 {find it here – no longer on sale}
  3. NYDJ Sea of Love  Print 3/4 Sleeve Blouse, on sale at Amazon for $45 {find it here – no longer on sale}
  4. LOFT Essential Skinny Ankle Pants in Julie Fit, $54 {find them here}
  5. Beija Flor Nicole Skinny (dark blue) jeans, used for $28 via eBay {find them here}
  6. Vintage Coach bag, hubby found at estate sale for $35

Not pictured:

  1. Adidas t-shirt, thrifted for $2
  2. Dana Buchman printed blouse, thrifted for $4
  3. Sejour hi-low top, thrifted for $4

Subtotal: $263.00
-$100 blog income
-$30 Amazon gift card {Thanks, Justine!}

TOTAL = $133 … not great but I did buy mostly NEW stuff this month, which is usually not the case for me.

I had $224 left for the quarter…which means I now have $91 left for March. I’m going to try really hard to stay in my budget but I can tell it’s going to be hard because I’m going to visit my mom in California in March and she loves to shop!

Now it’s your turn to spill the beans–what did you buy this month?

denim love {a workwear wednesday post}

I love denim. I think I could wear jeans every day and not break a sweat. Jeans are so versatile and varied, from skinny jeans to bootcut to trousers, there’s something for everyone.

That’s why I’ll admit that most days of the week, you’ll catch me wearing an outfit like this: jeans, blouse/top, shoes. This outfit features Levi’s bootcut curve ID jeans, my beloved Sanita clogs, and an ECI blouse (all thrifted).

Not a whole lot of razzle dazzle with this outfit, but it’s super comfy and easy to wear to work, run errands, or whatever you want to do. Here are some more examples of denim:

What do you think of denim? Do you wear it to work?

vest friends {a punny workwear wednesday post}

Sometimes I find vests hard to style but not this one. After much drooling and many months (or years) on my wishlist, I finally bit the bullet and bought this vest at BR over the summer. I’ve had a coworker refer to the style as “archaeologist chic” and I kind of see why–long vest, many pockets, olive green, worn with shorts in the summer and jeans and boots in the winter.

Can’t get enough vest in your life? Check out Justine’s blog to see how she styled a vest for #workwearwednesday.

october 2015 budget

For once, this month’s budget was slightly blown but I only bought 3 items. This is a new thing for me, as I usually thrift so I end up with a lot of items for little money.

But honestly, I’ve found myself buying clothes or accessories that I wear once or twice and and then donating or consigning them. For October – December’s budgets, I’m focusing on fewer items with better quality.

So, here’s what I got:

hotcakes design necklace and ring - black cats

  1. Hotcakes Designs Necklace (black cat)
  2. Hotcakes Designs Ring (girl holding black cat)
  3. Gap jeans ($3 from a thrift store)

Total = $138. I only went over my budget by $38 but I got a necklace and ring that are gorgeous and hand made and that I’ve wanted for a LONG time. Also, cats.

Your turn to spill the beans….How did you do this month?

workwear wednesday: fun prints (lemons!)

I love a fun, quirky print and what better way to show off your silly side by wearing a shirt with fruit all over it? Today was a casual day at work since we were returning from a long holiday weekend and I wanted to keep it simple.

Dont forget to check out what Justine is wearing for this #workwearwednesday!
