jean jacket jubilee {a workwear wednesday post}

I’m a fan of denim in general, especially denim jackets. My “traditional” denim jacket looks a bit funny on me, which the sleeves being too long and the body being a bit too tight. But this moto-style denim jacket that I picked up at a local consignment store fits nicely and works with a lot of different outfits. Here I wore it with khaki pants and a blouse to work. And because (I HOPE) fall is starting to descent on North Carolina, it was in the 70s and rainy so I wasn’t overheating in my jacket.

Another way I love to wear jean jackets is with dresses. I think it’s a cute and timeless ensemble that works for a more casual office setting.

Head on over to The Thrifty Girl’s Guide to see how Justine wears her jean jackets!

workwear wednesday: 6 workwear rules to follow

workwear wednesday 6 workwear rules to follow
Hi friends, for this week’s Workwear Wednesday, we’re showing off 6 workwear “rules” that are fun guidelines to use when building your business casual wardrobe. I work in an office, so business casual makes sense. But of course your “workwear” needs will differ based on your job…here are some of our favorite examples.

Dressed-Up Denim.

I’m a huge fan of jeans; they’re easy to dress up or dress down. A great pair of jeans can easily transform from daytime workwear chic to evening ensemble. I like to pair my favorite skinnies with a nice blouse, blazer, and heels.

The truth is I wear jeans to work almost every day and I never feel like I wear the same thing twice (hah!). The versatility and comfort factor of jeans make them some of my favorite work wardrobe staples.

An Investment Bag.

I think every woman should have at least one really great bag. If you’re a purse addict like me, you may have 10 to 50 great bags. I have a lot of purses, most of them thrifted, but some of them were bags I had to save up for. I think that there’s nothing wrong with saving up for a really great bag that will last you for years to come, in fact, I recommend it.

The type of bag you get will vary depending on your needs, your likes, your style, etc. What I’ve been using lately is a Dooney satchel that I’ve had for about 5 years. It’s the perfect size to carry all my stuff (minus my laptop and work notebook, those have their own bags) while at the same time the shape and color look professional. I really like satchels with a detachable shoulder strap because they allow me to grab the handles and go or throw it over my shoulder to keep both hands free.

denim love {a workwear wednesday post}

I love denim. I think I could wear jeans every day and not break a sweat. Jeans are so versatile and varied, from skinny jeans to bootcut to trousers, there’s something for everyone.

That’s why I’ll admit that most days of the week, you’ll catch me wearing an outfit like this: jeans, blouse/top, shoes. This outfit features Levi’s bootcut curve ID jeans, my beloved Sanita clogs, and an ECI blouse (all thrifted).

Like denim? Check out Justine’s denim post on The Thrifty Girl’s Guide.

Not a whole lot of razzle dazzle with this outfit, but it’s super comfy and easy to wear to work, run errands, or whatever you want to do. Here are some more examples of denim:

What do you think of denim? Do you wear it to work?

workwear wednesday: convertible dress for fall

Hi friends, it’s no surprise that I really like convertible dresses and so of course when Henkaa tweeted me about their fall contest, I was in. Plus hubby took the pictures of me outside (please excuse our janky deck, it really needs some work) when the trees in our backyard were in full color-changing splendor.

The nice thing about convertible dresses is that you can also wear them as skirts, which is what I did for this outfit that I wore to work last week. I love the Henkaa fabric, it’s super smooth and luxurious and was fun and comfortable to wear the dress as a skirt!

Don’t forget to check out my #workwearwednesday buddy Justine’s (formerly of the TheTwoCentChick) newly branded blog – The Thrifty Girl’s Guide!

recent closet addition: denim sleeveless shirt

I’ve wanted a denim sleeveless button-down shirt for several months and have not had any luck at thrift stores or online. The shirts I found were either the wrong size or just too expensive. I recently found 2 denim shirts on ebay for about $7 each and am thrilled – the price was so good, I got one in a darker denim and one in a lighter denim.

Here I am wearing my darker denim shirt with a black skirt and flats. It’s somewhere between super casual and business casual 🙂 Also pictured: Hubby’s dart board with a bulls-eye, since he’s a pretty good dart-thrower and I thought it would be a cute prop.

I’d love your input: If you like/have a sleeveless denim top, how do you style it?
